Isn't promise means anything to you SeongNam City?
Just couple of days ago, on May 4th 2022. We Cat'chDog Team have participated in rally protest held at Seongnam city hall and Moran dog meat market in Gyonggido, S.Korea.
Protest was held mainly due to an agreement between the city of Seongnam and the vendors' association at Moran market made 6 years ago have not been excuted.
At that time, The 22 dog meat vendors at the market, which sells anything from antiques to live animals to the city's million residents, are to receive financial support to enable them to convert to different lines of business.
Saying the move is about animal welfare and the reputation of both the city and South Korea as a whole, Seongnam Mayor Lee Jae-myung quoted Gandhi: "Seongnam City will take the initiative to transform South Korea's image since 'the greatness of a nation can be judged by the way its animals are treated'," he said.
Moran Market supplies one-third of the dog meat consumed in South Korea, and locals and welfare groups have long complained at the sight of dogs being slaughtered on the spot, often using brutal methods.
Now 6 years from the agreemnet was anounced, some people might say thing are changed now because we can't see the cages anymore in the market. But dog meat vendors are just covering your eyes by hiding the dog meat in the freezer waiting for the customers to come and ask for the meat, as you can clearly see the signs at the store.(see above photo)
While some see dog meat as part of Korean culinary tradition, consumption has declined sharply in recent years, with the same period seeing a large rise in pet ownership. Seongnam government needs to stop protecting vendors and think about how uncivilized this is and abolish the dog meat market completley.
